Siegwerk’s heat-seal lacquers help customers unlock recyclable flexibles

Siegwerk’s new heat-seal lacquer portfolio is designed to unlock consistent sealing, hot-tack performance and bond strength in fibre-based and selected flexible packaging applications.

The CIRKIT NOVASEAL portfolio draws upon know-how and technologies gained through Siegwerk’s acquisition of Allinova into ‘one coherent and clearly positioned product family.’

The lacquers are designed for reliable, consistent sealing performance at different temperatures in fibre-based and certain flexible packaging solutions. This is expected to help customers transition into recyclable packaging designs.

Siegwerk hopes that its structured portfolio approach will help converters select the right lacquer based on the application method, performance needs, and end use requirements.

The following lacquers are available under the CIRKIT NOVASEAL portfolio:

• NOVASEAL 1609 contains 22% solid content. Suitable for gravure application, the product is differentiated by its ‘excellent’ performance at high speed.
• NOVASEAL 1906 contains 32% solid content and can be applied through gravure or flexo technologies. It is notable for its hot tack capabilities.
• NOVASEAL 1643 contains 45% solid content and is applicable via gravure and flexo technologies. It stands out within the range for its high bond strength at low coating weight.
• NOVASEAL 1909 contains 45% solid content and can be applied through gravure or flexo technologies. Siegwerk emphasizes its low seal initiation temperature.
• NOVASEAL 1677 is noteworthy for its 54% solid content and is compatible with gravure or flexo application.

All the solutions are suitable for heat sealing and hot tack and are currently available to customers. It is expected to simplify product selection and improve transparency.

Altogether, Siegwerk says that the CIRKIT NOVASEAL lineup comprises ‘functional, future-ready solutions that answer both technical and sustainability demands.’

“CIRKIT NOVASEAL is a key milestone in strengthening our coatings offering for sustainable packaging,” said Gilles Le Moigne, head of Circular Economy Coatings at Siegwerk. “By unifying our heat‑sealing expertise under one strong product brand, we make it easier for customers to navigate performance requirements while aligning with circular economy goals.”

The news comes after Siegwerk signed an agreement to acquire Hi-Tech Inks in a bid to strengthen its position in the Indian flexible packaging market. Expected to reach a market share of over 20%, the combined business is set to become the largest in India.

In other news, Henkel Adhesive Technologies has expanded its paper coatings portfolio with new water-based barrier and heat seal coatings. The move is intended to improve the functionality of paper-based packaging and facilitate design-for-recycling.
