Recyclable paper butter wrap launched by Sirane

Sirane has added a plastic-free, recyclable butter wrap made from paper to its ‘Earth Packaging’ range – with a number of different barrier options available.

The solution, Earthfilm Butter-Wrap, uses coated papers in a bid to provide a recyclable alternative to the butter-wraps commonly used currently in the industry.

The company describes its coatings as “eco-friendly water-based barrier coatings” which demonstrate the required grease and moisture barrier. The solution can also be printed on, in-house, using water-based inks.

Simon Balderson, Sirane’s MD, said: “We’re expanding our popular Earthfilm range by adding butter wraps, which are sustainable, recyclable and plastic-free.

“Our Earthfilm Butter-Wrap is exciting news for the butter industry. It’s got all the properties of butter wraps currently used, but crucially is paper-recyclable. We can even provide metallic gold/silver papers, giving the same aesthetics as the packaging currently used – while still offering a paper-recyclable product.”

Options for the butter wrap include standard, Xtra (with moisture barrier on both sides) and metallised film (Ultra) with a higher barrier as well as a metallised finish. The company can also supply the materials as lids for butter packed in tubs.

The Earthfilm Butter-Wrap is the latest in a list of packaging alternatives Sirane has developed, including plastic-free and recyclable stand-up pouches and flow-wrap films, recyclable cake-boards, and recyclable salmon-boards.
