# Watttron secures €12 million in funding to develop technological capabilities and market expansion

**Temperature control systems company** [**Watttron**](https://watttron.de/?lang=en&ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **announced it has successfully raised €12 million in SERIES B funding to develop the technological capabilities of its packaging solutions and expand into the American and Asian markets.**

The round was led by the [Circular Innovation Fund](https://circularinnovationfund.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) (CIF) - a global venture capital fund focused on circular innovation and jointly managed by European-based [Demeter](https://demeter-im.com/en/home/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) and North American-based [Cycle Capital](https://cyclecapital.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) \- and the [European Circular Bioeconomy Fund](https://www.ecbf.vc/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) (ECBF). 

Wattron states that as the global demand for packaging rises, the industry stands at a critical juncture where change is imperative. The imperative is driven by an increase in sustainability initiatives across the industry, recognizing that growth must not compromise our environment, particularly considering the [adoption of the PPWR](https://packagingeurope.com/news/the-ultimate-guide-to-the-packaging-and-packaging-waste-regulation/10817.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) by the EU. 

Stephane Villecroze, managing partner at Demeter Investment Managers, said: “We are delighted to contribute to Watttron’s sustainable packaging mission via the Circular Innovation Fund managed by Demeter and Cycle Capital. This funding gives them capital for expansion and helps promote efficient production processes while adhering to sustainability principles in the packaging industry.” 

“Watttron’s technology represents a quantum leap in sustainable packaging, drastically cutting carbon emissions by reducing material and energy usage, and enabling the use of mono-materials, which significantly enhances recyclability,” adds Guillaume Gras, investment director at ECBF. 

“Simultaneously enhancing production efficiency and cost-effectiveness, this investment signifies more than financial support; it’s a commitment to pioneering a greener, more efficient future in the packaging industry.” 

At the end of last year, [Watttron](https://watttron.de/?lang=en&ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) and [Mespack](https://mespack.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) signed an agreement to [integrate smart digital sealing technology](https://packagingeurope.com/news/mespack-and-watttron-integrate-smart-digital-sealing-technology-into-flexible-packaging-machinery/10466.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) into flexible packaging machinery. This agreement integrates technology for both horizontal and vertical form fill and seal machines, as well as the soluble pod equipment Hydroforma series. 

More recently, [Volpak](https://www.volpak.com/en%22%20/t%20%22%5Fblank?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) and Watttron [formed a strategic partnership](https://packagingeurope.com/news/volpak-and-watttron-implement-digital-sealing-into-horizontal-pouching-machinery/10919.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) to integrate intelligent digital sealing technology into horizontal pouching machinery in a step towards precise, efficient, and sustainable flexible packaging processes. Bringing both companies’ technologies together is expected to allow Volpak’s customers to improve their sealing quality, cut down on material waste, and benefit the environment.
