# TIPA aims for improved functionality with home compostable film

[**TIPA**](https://tipa-corp.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **has launched a home compostable high-barrier film for laminated savoury snack and crisp packaging, aiming to offer enhanced functionality and durability.**

TIPA says its 312MET Premium film is a lightweight, ultra-thin metalized solution designed for high barrier protection against salt, oil, and moisture. The barrier properties apparently eliminate the need for an additional sealing layer, making it efficient for converting and suitable for various applications.

This film is available globally for purchase in reels and when paired with cellulose or paper layers, it is said to make ‘one of the market’s thinnest’ 2-ply home compostable solutions for crisps, chips, and snacks.

Also suitable for packaging granola bars, grains, coffee, and tea, TIPA states the film offers exceptional freshness and extended shelf life while maintaining an ‘eco-friendly’ end-of-life.

“Packaging crisps in compostable materials has long been a formidable challenge due to their corrosive properties,” said Gary Tee, vice president of Global Converting at TIPA. “With the improvements to our high-barrier film, we’re taking a significant step forward in reducing plastic waste while ensuring snack brands and consumers have a viable, thin, high-performance sustainable option.”

The range includes Popflex, the company’s monopolymer lidding film with laser-scored easy-opening, said to be suitable for recycling when weld-sealed to a matching PET tray.
