# Returnable mini beer crate for beer launched by Carrefour, Cornet and DW Reusables

**Following the new reusable packaging regulations set out in the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations (PPWR),** [**Carrefour Belgium**](https://www.carrefour.com/en/csr?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io)**,** [**Cornet**](https://int.cornetbier.be/global/en.html?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **Beer and** [**DW Reusables**](http://www.dwreusables.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **have developed a returnable six-pack for beer.**

Launched with the support of [VLAIO](https://www.vlaio.be/en?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) and [Living Lab](https://www.vlaio.be/nl/subsidies-financiering/living-labs-circulaire-economie?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io), the pack is ‘fully brandable’ and can be returned via [TOMRA](https://www.tomra.com/en?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io)’s reverse vending machines. The six-bottle packs are stored on retailer shelves and said to offer the same shopping convenience as single-use packs, including optimized shelf space, easy replenishment and reduced product handling. 

DW Reusables will apparently produce the packaging from 100% post-consumer plastic waste. The packs reportedly reduce the risk of pre-opened, unsellable units or damaged goods, with the crates cleaned after each use at socio-economic company [MIVAS](https://mivas.be/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io). At end of life, the crates are collected to be reground and turned into new crates. 

The project will be presented today at the [World Circular Economy Forum](https://wcef2024.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) in Brussels, with the first returnable packaging with a deposit available in Carrefour stores starting this autumn.

In similar news, last year German retail chain [REWE](https://www.rewe-group.com/en/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) trialled selling pasta, rice, cereal, and other foods in [reusable and returnable containers](https://packagingeurope.com/news/miwa-technologies-dispenses-dry-foods-into-reusable-returnable-containers-at-rewe-stores/10643.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) using [Miwa Technologies](https://www.miwa.eu/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) waste-reducing dispenser modules, aiming to cut down on unnecessary packaging and food waste. Miwa’s retail chain solution is expected to save almost 2,000 pieces of disposable packaging per container during its life cycle.

This month, [Uber Eats](https://www.ubereats.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) and [DeliverZero](https://www.deliverzero.com/%22%20/t%20%22%5Fblank?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) extended their partnership to offer takeaway food in [reusable, returnable packaging](https://packagingeurope.com/news/reusable-and-returnable-uber-eats-packaging-expands-across-america/11212.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) in Los Angeles, San Francisco and other areas on the West Coast of the United States. Reusable packaging pilots are also running in France, Switzerland, Germany, and the UK, among other countries.
