# Ravenwood and Troya Alimentos launch Mexico’s ‘first’ linerless tray for fresh produce

[**Ravenwood Packaging**](https://www.ravenwood.co.uk/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **has teamed up with** [**Troya Alimentos**](https://troya-alimentos.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **to introduce Mexico’s ‘first’ linerless, tray-based packaging for fresh produce, replacing plastic nets and traditional labels.**

Troya Alimentos has rolled out 20 SKUs including avocados, tomatoes, citrus, mangos and seasonal produce, packaged in carton trays with linerless labels. The new packaging aims to reduce waste and align with Mexico’s evolving regulations on single-use plastics.

Ravenwood’s Nobac labelling system was utilized for the trays, said to handle up to 50 packs per minute for smaller trays and 20-25 for larger ones, while remaining easy for staff to operate.

The labels are printed by [Reflex Labels](https://reflexlabels.co.uk/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) and the trays are made from fibre-based TrayCycle material from [Paper, Pulp & Film](https://www.paperconverter.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io). Launched in January 2026 across 30 stores, the programme has reportedly delivered 75,000 packs across 50 stores in its second month, with a goal of 200,000 packs across 150 stores for its third month.

Distribution covers Mexico City and extends from Tulum to Los Cabos, with plans to supply Amazon Fresh Mexico City following trial runs.

At the end of last year, Ravenwood partnered with label printer [ProPrint Group](https://proprintgroup.co.uk/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) on a [linerless fruit lid](https://packagingeurope.com/news/ravenwood-packaging-releases-linerless-lid-for-apple-packaging/13769.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) for [Kissabel](https://www.kissabel.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) apples, produced on the Com500 Coater and applied with Ravenwood’s high-speed Nobac 5000L fresh produce linerless applicator. The lid is said to be made from fully recyclable materials and provide ‘strong on-shelf standout’.

Also in 2025, [Blossom Hill](https://blossomhillapricots.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) adopted fibre-based, [linerless packaging](https://packagingeurope.com/news/blossom-hill-and-partners-present-fibre-based-linerless-tray-for-apricots/13300.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) for its apricots – said to be a fully recyclable, PFAS-free alternative to plastic clamshells and backing paper. Developed by [Paper, Pulp & Film](https://www.paperconverter.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) and printed by [Superior Litho](https://www.superiorlithographics.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io), the TrayCycle trays are designed to balance environmental benefits with functionality and shelf appeal.
