# ProAmpac teams up with ScottsMiracle-Gro on kerbside recyclable gardening packaging

By switching from multilayer plastic films to ProAmpac’s recyclable bags, ScottsMiracle-Gro aims to introduce fibre-based packaging to the lawn and garden sector, providing consumers with a recyclable option that can be placed in kerbside paper recycling bins.

“The transition to PRO-EVO Recyclable Bags has been smooth and successful,” said Ray Severa, packaging engineer with ScottsMiracle-Gro who led the O.M. Scott & Sons packaging initiative. “These bags run efficiently in our production process, deliver the durability we need, and align with our focus on environmentally responsible packaging.”

“ScottsMiracle-Gro sought a packaging solution that protects the O.M. Scott & Sons products while enhancing sustainability for consumers,” said Hesam Tabatabaei, senior vice president of global product development and innovation at ProAmpac. “Our curbside recyclable PRO-EVO SOS Bags, built with enhanced moisture protection and durability, deliver branding impact required for lawn care products.”

Last year [Tesco](https://www.tesco.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) and [Zespri](https://www.zespri.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) collaborated on a [kerbside recyclable](https://packagingeurope.com/news/tesco-and-zespri-display-kiwis-in-kerbside-recyclable-tray-with-linerless-lid/12065.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) tray and linerless lid solution for kiwi packaging, aiming to cut down on carbon footprint and transition away from the traditional plastic flow wrap. Sections of the lid are die-cut to resemble the ‘sun rays’ in Zespri’s logo, with specialty tooling cutting the carton and removing waste at high speeds, a feature expected to make the product commercially viable for larger volume runs.

[KIND Snacks](https://www.kindsnacks.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) recently began piloting a kerbside recyclable [paper wrapper](https://packagingeurope.com/news/kind-pilots-kerbside-recyclable-paper-wrapper-in-us/12790.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) at select [Whole Foods Market](https://www.wholefoodsmarket.co.uk/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) stores in the United States, utilizing a [How2Recycle](https://how2recycle.info/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) pre-qualified paper type. The new wrapper will be available at stores in locations including Connecticut, New York and Texas Nevada from May 1st \- October 1st for KIND’s Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt single bars.
