# Fresh and recycled fibres combined in Stora Enso’s bag and mailer paper

[**Stora Enso**](https://www.storaenso.com/en/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **is blending fresh and recycled fibres into its new Optima RF paper, which is intended to help retail and e-commerce companies meet internal and legislative sustainability goals.**

As the newest addition to the Optima line, Optima RF – which stands forRecycled Fibre – is said to constitute a 50/50 balance of virgin and recycled fibres. It ranges from 70 gsm to 110 gsm to encompass a range of applications.

The solution targets shopping bags, mailer envelopes, and similar use cases in the retail and e-commerce spaces, with Stora Enso intending to meet the sectors’ increasing demand for high-quality recycled solutions.

As legislation like the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation comes into force, Optima RF is designed to meet food contact certifications for further use in grocery and takeaway applications.

“With the impending regulations sharpening the focus on sustainable practices, Optima RF represents our continued commitment to circular fibre-based solutions,” says head of Product Line Artur Jerzylo. “This launch underscores our dedication to innovation in sustainability, ensuring that our solutions support customers in navigating the evolving regulatory landscape and meeting their circularity ambitions without compromising on performance.”

[Mondi](https://www.mondigroup.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) has undertaken its own efforts to [blend fresh and recycled fibres](https://packagingeurope.com/news/mondi-papers-blend-virgin-and-recycled-fibres-for-functionality-and-recyclability/11487.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) in its two-ply ProVantage SmartKraft Brown and White paper grades, which cater to applications in the e-commerce, retail, and fast-moving consumer goods sectors.

It has also worked with [Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) to develop a [paper-padded envelope](https://packagingeurope.com/news/mondi-helps-amazon-replace-bubble-wrap-with-protective-paper-lining-in-envelopes/11907.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) with paper-based, shock-absorbent lining; this solution [won a Sustainability Award](https://packagingeurope.com/news/winners-of-the-sustainability-awards-2024-announced/12109.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) under the E-Commerce category. The pack is set to replace plastic bubble wrap in Amazon’s paper envelopes in single and bulk deliveries.
