# Dioxycle and L’Oréal partner to process carbon emissions into polyethylene

**Chemicals company** [**Dioxycle**](https://dioxycle.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **has announced a multi-year partnership with** [**L’Oréal**](https://www.loreal.com/en/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **aiming to process captured carbon emissions into ‘high-performance, sustainable’ packaging materials.**

Dioxycle says its uses carbon electrolysis to transform captured CO or CO2 emissions into sustainable ethylene, the building block of polyethylene. This approach aims to provide a new source of renewable carbon and complement existing solutions like recycling and bio-based materials.

The company claims that its ‘drop-in’ solution delivers virgin-quality performance while reducing carbon footprint. By supporting Dioxycle’s technology, L’Oréal plans to reduce its Scope 3 emissions by introducing polyethylene made via carbon electrolysis into its packaging portfolio.

“By partnering with a global beauty group that demands the highest standards of excellence, we’re proving that sustainability and performance can go hand in hand,” said Dr. Sarah Lamaison, CEO and co-founder of Dioxycle. “L’Oréal’s leadership in adopting scalable climate solutions sets a powerful precedent and brings us closer to a circular carbon-based chemical industry.”

Last October L’Oréal became the first major brand owner to [join](https://packagingeurope.com/news/loreal-becomes-first-big-brand-owner-in-nextloopps-food-grade-pp-project/13555.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) the [NEXTLOOPP](https://www.nextloopp.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) Americas consortium, which pursues a closed loop for food-grade recycled polypropylene throughout the region. It seeks to mobilize recyclers, converters, brand owners, and other value chain stakeholders to introduce infrastructure, technologies, and regulatory pathways for safe and scalable recycling processes.

A few months later, [Amcor](https://www.amcor.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) revealed its [participation](https://packagingeurope.com/news/amcor-joins-three-year-project-to-establish-circular-recycling-for-food-packaging/13758.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) in a three-year plastic recycling project led by [Danish Technological Institute](https://www.dti.dk/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io), aiming to establish the full-scale circular recycling of food packaging in polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) rigid plastics from household collections. The CRISP partnership aims to help develop and mature a systemic solution to deliver food-grade packaging from post-consumer sources and document the traceability of food contact materials in the recycling loop.
