# Butter wrap from ProAmpac is TÜV-certified for home compostability

[**ProAmpac**](https://www.proampac.com/en-us/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io)**’s ButterFresh Parchment butter wrap, designed to avoid both wax and PFAS, has received** [**TÜV Austria**](https://en.tuv.at/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io)**’s OK Compost Home certification for home compostability.**

ButterFresh Parchment is described as a wax-free, PFAS non-intend printed wrapper. It is intended to be used with oil-based solid products like butter and margarine, supplying grease resistance and dead-fold properties to reduce air exposure and keep the foods fresh.

The pack is also designed to maintain its performance properties and runability during the packing stage while also being compostable at end-of-life.

“Earning the OK compost HOME certificate by TÜV Austria underscores our commitment to delivering packaging solutions that combine performance, process efficiency, and environmental responsibility,” said Ray Recchia, global innovation manager, sustainable paper packaging at ProAmpac.

“ButterFresh Parchment demonstrates how we can deliver PFAS non-intent fibre-based technologies that meet the growing demand for home-compostable packaging.”

In another butter-related move, [Aldi](https://www.aldi.co.uk/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) has transitioned two of its own-label butter lines into home-recycled, [paper-based wrappers](https://packagingeurope.com/news/aldi-wraps-butter-in-home-recyclable-paper-in-plastic-reduction-effort/11353.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io). The move is anticipated to eliminate over 10 tonnes of non-recyclable packaging every year.

Elsewhere in the industry, [Scanfill](https://www.scanfill.se/en/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) and [Sulapac](https://www.sulapac.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) recently unveiled a thermoforming foil made of a [compostable wood composite](https://packagingeurope.com/news/certified-compostable-foil-alternative-revealed-by-scanfill-and-sulapac/13003.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io), aiming to provide a ‘drop-in’ alternative to conventional plastic foils. Its high biobased content is thought to lower a pack’s carbon footprint ‘significantly’ compared to solutions like PET.
