# Borealis to boost recycling capacity with Integra Plastics acquisition

[**Borealis**](https://www.borealisgroup.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **has acquired advanced mechanical recycler** [**Integra Plastics AD**](https://integra-plastics.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) **in the hopes of increasing its recycling capacity by over 20,000 tons and meeting consumer demand for sustainable solutions.**

Integra Plastics AD is based in Elin Pelin, Bulgaria. Its advanced mechanical recycling plant was built in 2019, and its state-of-the-art equipment converts post-consumer waste into polyolefin recyclate geared towards ‘demanding applications’.

As it acquires a 100% stake in the company, Borealis hopes that the transaction – the closure of which is subject to customary regulatory approvals – will support its EverMinds commitment, which anticipates the transition into a circular economy.

“In line with Borealis’ Strategy 2030, we continue making steady progress on our circularity journey by reinventing essentials for sustainable living,” states Lucrèce Foufopoulos, executive vice president of Polyolefins, Circular Economy Solutions and Innovation & Technology at Borealis. “The addition of Integra Plastics AD will strengthen our ability to deliver on our advanced mechanical recycling ambition and enable our customers to meet their sustainability targets.”

This acquisition marks one of several throughout the year. Borealis [acquired a majority stake](https://packagingeurope.com/news/borealis-backs-chemical-recycling-with-acquisition-of-majority-stake-in-renasci/9264.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) in chemical recycling solution provider [Renasci](https://www.renasci.be/en?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) back in January – and, in the summer, it [signed an agreement](https://packagingeurope.com/news/borealis-to-acquire-rialti-spa-a-european-producer-of-recycled-polypropylene-compounds/9999.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) to acquire [Rialti](https://www.rialtispa.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io), a producer of mechanically recycled polypropylene compounds for injection moulding and extrusion. Meanwhile, [LyondellBasell](https://www.lyondellbasell.com/?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io)’s [25% equity ownership](https://packagingeurope.com/news/lyondellbasell-pursues-higher-plastic-recycling-rate-with-25-acquisition-of-cyclyx/10538.article?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) of joint venture [Cyclyx International](https://10to90.com/cyclyx?ref=packaging-europe.ghost.io) hopes to help the company improve its recycling processes and pursue a circular economy for plastics in the United States.
